  •   Well, creative campers, that story is not going to write itself, so bring it to Story Summer Camp 2018, and make it SHINE! Sundays: May 6th, May 20th, August 26th (plus optional coffee shop meet ups for writing and a bonus agent event) This summer series is for writers who want support and structure for taking a story idea or draft through workshops that will inform and inspire. Join us for an initial workshop on moving from an idea/concept to a more developed plot. We'll meet up two weeks later to look at pacing and other considerations, and we'll end as summer does with a workshop addressing revising the initial draft and looking toward querying the project. At each of the sessions (held Sundays 9am-2pm at the Ranch House at May Arboretum on N. Sierra), there will be time to dig into ideas, work hands-on with projects, ask questions, and receive feedback. Heather Petty, internationally selling author of Lock and Mori YA mystery series and a working writer is one of our amazing camp counselors and will lead the workshops that kick off each day's events. You'll take away practical insights you can use throughout the summer (and your writing adventures) to get going as a writer or take your writing to the next level. Your camp fee includes fabulous supplementary workshops from Jenny Mackay, a terrific writer with a growing list of successful non-fiction titles and an extraordinary mentor. Pull up a chair and enjoy further workshops in developing characters, dialogue, and marketing yourself as a writer. To keep our heads in story mode, we'll have optional, casual meet ups on Sundays at a local coffee house. We'll set up camp near the coffee and treats! People who take the full workshop are also invited to attend an online agent event in the fall--an opportunity to learn from and ask questions of an industry professional. Enrollees in that event will have the option of an additional paid critique, but the meeting is included in your full summer camp admission fee! Can't make it to all of the Summer Story Camp sessions? There is an option for attending individual workshop days to personalize your summer of writing adventure--but we hope you'll be able to have the full camp experience! If you'd like the added incentive to work hard at camp, sign up for an optional pages critique with our instructor, Heather Petty. She's a talented writer, gifted presenter, and insightful reader. You're welcome to sign up for one of the limited critique spots post-camp for personalized feedback on those important first chapters! **The ticket prices include a little uptick to cover PayPal fees. If you pay by check, please *subtract* $5 from your total cost and mail a check to: Nevada SCBWI      11329 Altura Vista Drive     Las Vegas, NV  89138 Please write Julie Dillard at nevada-ara@scbwi.org with any questions!
