The NV SCBWI Mentorship Program is held in Las Vegas every year ending in an even number. In 2018, the retreat will be held in Main Street Hotel in downtown, Las Vegas on January 26 to 28, 2018. Main Street Station Casino Brewery Hotel has a charming Victorian-era theme, dozens of rare antiques and curiosities, award-winning restaurants – and even a slab of the Berlin Wall. Soak in the vibe of Vegas's glitzy of Freemont Street that's only a block away. It's a writer's retreat but we want you to have fun too.

MENTORSHIP PROGRAM FEES

Please note that we are an all-volunteer organization. None of us are paid to create this mentorship program. We do it because we believe it will help writers perfect their manuscripts. We hear often from published authors that they wished they had a program like this when they started writing. The mentors are paid per mentee; however, their honorarium does not truly cover the cost of their time.

We have tried our best to keep the costs down. As a nonprofit, we do not need to make a profit unlike many of the other programs; however, we do need to break even and cover our expenses.

The cost of the Mentorship Program is $1500 including all meals and lodging. If you live in Las Vegas, and do not need a hotel room, the cost of the program is $1300. This is for a 6 month mentorship program. Please check other programs to better understand how affordable this program is comparatively. Nevada residents are encourage to apply for a Professional Development Grant with Nevada Arts Council which gives $500 in grants for such programs.

* We will allow for mentees to make 3 separate payments or one lump sum.

Here is the transparency of costs associated with holding this event. We need to provide air travel, hotel, and meals for all of the faculty to attend the retreat in addition to paying for their honoarium for the program. There will be 12 members in the faculty. There is a cost of $500 per day to rent the meeting space. We are required to have one catered meal per day for the retreat to be able to have the meeting and keep costs down for the hotel rooms. (I've investigated 17 properties and calculated all possible combinations to get this price.) The cost of having a catered meal is much higher than if we went to one of the restaurants because there is the cost of labor for the service and setup etc. The our total expenses are about $27,000.

The faculty is in the process of creating the craft program. In addition to meeting with your mentors, we will have presentation by the faculty. We will have at least 2 agents at the event. We are aiming for more, but it will be dependent on how many mentees we select for the program. We do not want to compromise the quality of the program.

Meals included in this retreat are: Fri dinner, Saturday – 3 meals, Sunday brunch.
